2021.12.06 14:11 elegantxangel Airports give me (F20, USA) severe anxiety, but so do freeways/some highways...

However, I want to face one of my fears at least, because I need to see my amazing fiancé (M20, Canada). He has flown to see me a couple of times which can be pricey. So I've decided to drive all the way to him. 😅 Luckily I'm in Wisconsin so it won't be too hard to get near the border.
It seems like I'll mostly be driving on highways which is okay to me. Usually they aren't as hectic as 4-lane freeways lol. And I won't have to worry about being surrounded by literally hundreds of people in a noisy atmosphere like I deal with at the airport! It'll just be me and my favorite music for 14ish hours straight. 😂 the downside is dealing with traffic and uneducated drivers but I'd honestly rather deal with that. Just hope my GPS doesn't flip out on me lol.
Anyways, is there any advice someone could give me? I'm going to save as much money as I can for gas, tolls, and possibly 1 overnight stay somewhere if needed. Also, since I'm driving there, would I need a COVID-19 test before re-entering the USA? Just wondering so I can plan ahead... I want to drive there around April for his birthday but maybe the rules will change regarding the virus. It's always changing. 🙃
Thanks in advance. 💙💙💙

2021.12.06 14:11 iim7_V6_IM7_vim7 Anyone know of a spot I can car camp near either Stowe or Okemo?

I have a pretty good setup for sleeping in my car and would rather do that near the base of the mountain than either drive up in the morning or pay for a place to stay. I used to go to Killington and had a spot there but I got the epic pass this year so I need to know where I can camp at these other mountains now.
Any suggestions??

2021.12.06 14:11 NoCommercial7609 5 Soviet films re-edited by the Americans:

  1. «Планета бурь (Planet of Storms)» 1961 did not become a special hit at Homeland (now you will not find many people in Russia who know about this film), despite the use of unique combined shooting technologies that were far ahead of foreign analogues that existed at that time, including underwater shooting. The film was bought out by Roger Corman. He made it the "raw material" for his "products". At first they wanted to shorten the film by removing everything that they considered "propaganda". It turned out to be short. We decided to lengthen it by shooting additional scenes. Instead of a translation, at best it turned out to be a retelling, in other cases - an ad-lib. All the characters were renamed "Europeans", there was no mention that this was a film production from the USSR, "European" names were invented for Soviet actors in the credits, and the Komsomol Masha Ivanov was replaced by almost a fighting girl Marsha Evans (the scenery where Marsha talks to the base differs in style with both the original scenery and the interior of the spaceship). Added the head of the expedition, leading from the base. And a few frames of "space filming" borrowed from somewhere else. As a result, there are two whole films: «Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet» in 1965 and «Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women» in 1968. In general terms, the plot «Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet» remains the same, only simplified. They removed not only conversations about the Soviet government and the party, but also reflections on the development of intelligent beings, but added a number of scenes. In «Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women», the former craftwork was redesigned. A lot of "space filming" was also added (it is possible that they were also borrowed from somewhere, in particular from the Soviet «Небо зовёт (The sky is calling)» and Pavel Klushantsev's documentaries). The plot has been reworked even more. And they also added a voice-over narrator. Thanks to this, any scene from the original could get a completely opposite meaning. But the main thing is that the population of the planet has been added — a small tribe (or religious sect) of fanservice beauties (it would not be quite correct to call them savages or Amazons — the outfits seem to be made at least by artisans, besides, they clearly do not show belligerence). They owned magic, that is, the eruption of a volcano and a downpour were their handiwork (in the original and in the previous craft, they were just natural disasters, and there was no smell of magic/mysticism/shamanism). There are also a lot of microcracks in the film, which can be characterized as a "movie lapse": while they are flying to the planet, the first spaceship changes its appearance (since it was taken from different films), the appearance of a flying lizard (in the scene of the battle with the astronauts, the lizard is "Soviet", and the beauties are already crying over the corpse of "American production", and according to the plot this is one creature), similarly, a robot (almost all the action is a robot from the original film, but after the eruption, a half—burned robot that became an idol of the "mermaids", has different proportions, especially its manipulators can catch the eye). It may seem that the authors were guided by the principle of "the public is a fool" for the second time. Also, the original film was quite close to solid science fiction, immediately turned out to be a space opera with mysticism.
  2. «Небо зовёт (The sky is calling)» 1959 was remounted in 1962 by Roger Corman and released under the title «Battle Beyond the Sun» with a creative instead of a translation. As in the previous case, the Soviet origin was hidden. They removed "anti-American propaganda" from the film. It is still a tale of the "space race", of two nations competing to become the first to land a spacecraft on the planet Mars, but switches the competing nations, via the dubbing, from the USSR and the USA to the fictional future countries of North Hemis and South Hemis. They also added a battle of two monsters living on an asteroid. These monsters are stylistically different even from the remade version, while they look unconvincing when compared with Ray Harryhausen monsters of the same time. "2001: A Space Odyssey" used drawings and graphic solutions from "The Sky is Calling", created by science fiction artist Yuri Shvets.
  3. «Мечте навстречу (Towards the Dream)» 1963 was remade into the film «Queen of Blood» in 1966. Approximately left the plot until the meeting with the aliens. After meeting with an alien mind in an American film, the prediction of an American scientist begins to come true, but from the Soviet original. General plans, "space shots", a lot of shots where the faces are not visible, were brazenly taken from "Towards the Dream". Including over-sounding. Some of the special effects there look somehow wrong.
  4. The 1952 fairy tale film «Садко (Sadko)» by the famous director Alexander Ptushko was remade by Roger Corman into «The Magic Voyage of Sinbad» in 1962. They were not even confused by the Slavic appearance of "Sinbad". As usual, they changed the names of the characters and creators, and at the same time shortened the film by 6 minutes, and cut out all the songs. At the same time, they included a voiceover text in their version. The funniest thing: in 1953, the original received "the Silver Lion" at the Venice International Film Festival, as well as "the Golden Lion" nomination, in addition, the judges of the festival included Sergei Stolyarov (the actor who played Sadko) in the list of the best actors in the world for the half-century history of cinema, and as a prize-winner of the Venice Film Festival, the film was shown in the United States in 1953 with English subtitles, distributed by Artkino Pictures Inc.
  5. «Илья Муромец (Ilya Muromets)» in 1956 by the same Ptushko is the first Soviet widescreen feature film based on Russian folk epics. However, our friend Roger Corman remounted it in «The Sword and the Dragon». In the beginning, for example, they cut out a scene where Vasilisa is captured, so when Ilya then saves her, it is not clear to the English audience what kind of unknown lady he climbs to kiss. Is it necessary to say that there is a dragon in the film, but it appears at the very end?

2021.12.06 14:11 GhostAmethyst Does anyone else own more tea than they can even drink through?

I’m curious how other people acquired their collections?
So I used to work for DavidsTea. I feel like maybe that’s enough said? 😅 I worked with my store manager when we had to close our store and anything on the tea wall, any open bags behind the counter, all of it was expected to get tossed. I say expected but, I don’t actually know if anyone really thought we were all just going to throw away and waste perfectly good tea. I mean we were a small team so it obviously couldn’t all go so quite a bit got tossed which was heartbreaking. But we saved as much as we could.
There was that on top of, I guess as an apology for the entire situation they gave us a 60% off online code so most of us used that to stock up on things we couldn’t get in the store on closing day. Plus our regular store discount throughout my time there was great.
We also had a couple of instances where a ton of teas had to get discontinued overnight, and those were also expected to get tossed in the garbage.
Overall I have a full size bookcase full of tea tins and a whole bin of back up bags of tea. And that’s after having given away SO SO much to family and about half a dozen tea care packages to friends. I still giveaway as much as I can but it never feels like it puts a dent in it to be honest.
